Organizer Job Description
The Position
1. To fulfill the social justice mandate of the Congregation for Reconciliation (hereinafter Congregation) the Organizer shall devote approximately eighty percent (80%) of regular working hours in performing the following:
1.1. The Organizer shall work with current and new members and participants in the development and implementation of strategic plans adopted by the members of the Congregation.
1.2. The Organizer shall work towards the recruitment of new Congregation members who have a social justice commitment.
1.3. The Organizer shall identify, assess, evaluate, and propose social justice issues to the Congregation for choice and planning, even as the members of the Congregation do. For any issues that are approved, the Organizer shall serve as an enabler and as a resource because the carrying out of any initiative is a team effort. The Organizer shall also provide support to the Congregation’s existing social justice work.
1.4. The Organizer shall participate in networking or community outreach as a representative of the Congregation for social justice issues.
1.5. The Organizer shall be available as a resource for the Congregation and any of its committees or arrange other resources for the study of biblical, theological, philosophical and ethical roots of the full range of social justice issues. The Organizer shall encourage the members to act together for justice from an informed and defined basis.
1.6. The Organizer shall encourage the inclusion of rest, play, and celebration in support of the work and shall include the prophetic challenge of justice in the gathering of the community.
2. The Organizer shall devote approximately fifteen percent (15%) of regular working hours in participating or assisting Congregation members in the development, planning, coordination, administration, and execution of regular and special events of the Congregation; e.g., liturgy, study, Children’s Church, and youth activities.
3. The Organizer shall devote approximately five percent (5%) of regular working hours to Congregation personal growth/education activities that are approved by the Congregation.
4. The Organizer may make referrals for counseling for Congregation members and participants if so requested. The Congregation members shall be responsible for traditional pastoral needs of the church including appropriate referrals for counseling with consultation with the Organizer.
Supervision and Guidance
The Organizer is an employee of the Congregation. The Congregation shall approve all major social justice initiatives and programs and may provide general guidance and instruction for their accomplishment. All duties shall be accomplished in accordance with the Congregation’s Constitution and Bylaws. The Congregation or its designated representative shall periodically evaluate the Organizer’s performance and provide feedback to the Organizer. Personal and sick leave matters and other minor day-to-day administrative matters shall be reported to and determined or approved by the Moderator or, in the Moderator’s absence, by any member of the Council. Vacation plans must be proposed in a timely manner to the Congregation or its designated representative for approval
